About CANIMUN 2003The Canadian International Model United Nations [CANIMUN] 2003 Conference was held in Ottawa, Canada from 12-15 March 2003. Organized by the United Nations Association in Canada [UNA-Canada] in partnership with Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade [DFAIT], CANIMUN 2003 offered a first pan-Canadian international Model UN conference and welcomed delegates from all corners of the world. Since 2000, Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade [DFAIT] has been supporting UNA-Canada’s Model United Nations Programme. In 2002, UNA-Canada began to contemplate the possibility of holding an international Model UN Conference in Canada for Canadian and international university students. Given the impressive results of a feasibility study conducted in February 2002, UNA-Canada, in partnership with DFAIT, announced on August 22nd, 2002, our country’s first Canadian International Model United Nations [CANIMUN] Conference. CANIMUN 2003 was staffed with avid Model UN enthusiasts from across Canada and the United States. Each staff member brought a wealth of cultural and regional uniqueness to this new and innovative international conference. CANIMUN 2003 also had exciting features that included: unique and prominent conference venues; renowned speakers; simultaneous translation in French and English for larger size committees; an International Model United Nations Forum [I-MUN]; and, a series of challenging and innovative committee set-ups that stimulated debate and engaged participants at all levels.
