UNBC Students Win Awards during National United Nations Simulation

“These national Model United Nations events attract students from Canada and the United States and they’re important venues for educating students about international relations,” says Caroline Clarke, an assistant professor in the University’s International Studies program. “The competition is serious and of a very high standard. The University and the broader community should be proud of Theon and Kyle. Their achievements are significant and delightful for a small and young university.”

Attribution of awards are determined with a two-tier evaluation system.

 

Following a peer evaluation that will be conducted by all delegates in their respective committees, a committee Dais will conduct a detailed evaluation based on the following criteria:

  • Overall knowledge of the topic
  • Overall knowledge of the country
  • Effectiveness within formal debates
  • Effectiveness within informal debates
  • Leadership skills within formal settings
  • Leadership skills within informal settings
  • Position papers
  • Punctuality
  • Participation at the conference in general

From this evaluation process, three delegate awards were considered for each committee: Best, Outstanding and Honorable.
