Interpretation

CANIMUN is the only University-level Model UN conference in Canada to be held in both official languages. Opening ceremonies, along with a selected number of committees, will enjoy simultaneous interpretation at all times. In addition, CANIMUN will include committees that will only conduct their business in one official language, therefore requiring delegates to be fluent in English or French, depending on the committee, prior to registration. This feature aims to reflect Canada’s linguistic nature while adding to the realism of a United Nations simulation.

The following committees will enjoy simultaneous interpretation:

  • First Committee: Disarmament and International Security (French/English)
  • Second Committee: Economic and Financial (French/English)
  • Third Committee: Social, Humanitarian and Cultural (French/English)
  • General Assembly Plenary (French/English)
  • Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (French/English)
  • Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (ECLAC) (French/English/Spanish)
  • United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) (French/English)
  • World Health Organisation (WHO) (French/English)
  • World Food Programme (WFP) (French/English)

The following committee will be conducted in French-only:

  • Council of the European Union

The following committees will be conducted in English-only:

  • United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
  • South Africa CODESA 1991
  • Charlottetown Conference 1864
  • International Criminal Court
  • Antarctica Negotiations 2020
