About CANIMUNThe Canadian International Model United Nations [CANIMUN] Conference is a four-day bilingual simulation event held in Canada's capital city, Ottawa, in early March. UNA-Canada successfully implemented the first CANIMUN Conference in March 2003. This inaugural event involved more than 800 participants and volunteer staff members from every province in Canada and more than 15 countries around the world. The next Canadian International Model UN (CANIMUN) Conference is scheduled to take place from 10-13 March 2004.
Organized by the United Nations Association in Canada [UNA-Canada], CANIMUN offers a unique pan-Canadian international Model UN experience that welcomes delegates from all corners of the world. Since September 2000, Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade [DFAIT] has been supporting UNA-Canada’s Model United Nations Programme. In early 2002, UNA-Canada began to contemplate the possibility of holding an international Model UN Conference in Canada for Canadian and international university students. Given the impressive results of a feasibility study conducted in February 2002, UNA-Canada, in partnership with DFAIT, announced on August 22nd, 2002, the launch of the first Canadian International Model United Nations [CANIMUN] Conference, held from 12-15 March 2003, in the city of Ottawa. Every year, CANIMUN is staffed with avid Model UN enthusiasts from across Canada. Each staff member brings a cultural and regional uniqueness to this new and innovative international conference. CANIMUN also offers many exciting features, including: unique and prominent conference venues; renowned speakers; simultaneous translation in French, English and Spanish; a Mock Press Corp and a daily bilingual News publication; an International Model United Nations Forum [2003 only]; an Ambassador's Reception [2004]; a Head Delegate's Luncheon [2004]; and, a series of challenging and innovative committee set-ups that promise stimulating and engaging debate for all involved.
